OS/2 Multimedia Chapter – Summary

by Maria Ingold

SUMMARY

This chapter described the components of multimedia, and explained the architecture and APIs of OS/2 Multimedia. The basic elements of multimedia are audio, image, and video. The OS/2 Multimedia architecture is composed of three extensible layers. These are the Media Control Interface (MCI), the Stream Protocol Interface (SPI), and the Multimedia I/O (MMIO). The MCI layer is extended with Media Control Drivers (MCDs), the SPI layer is extended by using stream handlers, and the MMIO layer is extended through IOProcs. For more information about developing applications for OS/2 Multimedia, take a look at the book Developing Multimedia Applications Under OS/2.
