This OTT Question Time discusses the environmental impact of OTT streaming. Together with Luke Gaydon of Terra Neutra, Lars Larsson of Varnish Software, Maria Ingold of mireality and Gulliver Smithers of RampRate IT. It explores the annual energy consumption of streaming, the wider supply chain and glass-to-glass process, the resources needed to manufacture screens (TVs, phones, tablets) and the carbon footprint of creating content and on-location shooting.

PANELLIST: Nextv CEO Europe: AVOD / BVOD / SVOD Strategies: The Way Forward for TV Broadcasters?

This panel gathered together two vendors and two broadcasters. Maria spoke on the current trend of “Make money, save money”. This covered monetisation models including AVOD, BVOD, SVOD and FAST as well as saving money through methods including addressing password sharing and sustainability. Online video advertising has been higher revenue than SVOD since the beginning; passing linear TV advertising this year and projected the pass PayTV subscription in 2024.

PANELLIST: IABM BaM Live: Standardization: Structure or Chaos?

Our panel provided a range of perspectives on use of standardization and processes in the broadcast and media business. Co-panellists included Andy Copeland of Dell, Melanie Moeller of Sky and David Orman in investment, with Stan Moote of IABM chairing. Good  debate on standards and processes. While they can be highly effective as a foundation to free up time to be agile and further innovate, their biggest benefit is felt to be of interoperability.
